Hey y'all! I'm finally getting back into writing some music, so hopefully this blog won't be so barren for so long! I just whipped up a quick little Walking Dead Lullaby for everyone! Have fun! See if you can get the little one to sleep using it!

Hey! So my album is finally out there for the world to see!

CINEMATIC LULLABIES
After listening to a bunch of lullaby classical music and rock lullaby renditions (courtesy of Rockabye Baby), I decided to make a lullaby album of some of the big themes in movies we've all grown up with.

This was a huge labor of love as I got to not only spend months working on music I love but I also have the opportunity to introduce my daughter to some of the most memorable themes in movie history.

Now I realize I don't have EVERYTHING but there's a good amount here. Hopefully I'll get around to making another one with more movie themes (or based on the two bonus tracks of this album ... TV Themes?)

I didn't put any samples on this post because I haven't had the time yet but I wanted to get the word out there. You can hear the samples wherever you choose to download the album (if you so desire).

Some New Developments...

It's been one busy year! You've probably noticed that I haven't posted much. Well, I HAD A KID! BACK OFF!

Kidding! I mean, I DID have a kid but kidding about the "Back Off" part.

2013 looks to be a pretty exciting year for me musically. I've got another short I'm scoring in the beginning of the year, a few individual cues I'm working on, and [drumroll] ... AN ALBUM!

Now, it's not gonna be for everyone but I'm super stoked on it and I can't wait to share it with all of you!

Lacuna

Hey, y'all! I'm finally back again. It's been a hectic ... HECTIC past couple of months. Not a lot of sleep. But its all kind of winding down now, and I can finally get some more blog posts up.

I just finished scoring a 30-minute short film called "LACUNA" and now that its almost done with post (coloring and mixing) I can blog about the music! This was the most music I've written for one project to date. I also extended my practice of working a theme throughout the score since there was more time to let it grow and change.

So, without further ado ... SPOILER ALERT! ... have a listen!

Whole Foods Ad

Hey y'all. I know, I know ... it's been a minute since I've posted here. I've been busy! GET OFF MY BACK! No, seriously though, it's been non-stop. I've been working on this short film (which I'll be able to post about soon) and an animation with our friend, Eric Peters.

I was also working on this Whole Foods ad for their new Auto-Reload card. I was hired to do the editing and animation, but they also asked me to write the music for it. It needed a fun, up-beat pop song so it was a nice little break from what I usually write. The link to the youtube video is below (it's really low res for some reason) and the song is below that!

Harry Potter Piano Solo

Hey y'all! So, in the spirit of the premiere of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, I sat down at the piano and worked out a piano solo of one of my favorite cues from the Harry Potter soundtracks. The song is titled, "The Story Continues" and it's from the Goblet of Fire soundtrack.

I love this song because it takes a familiar theme and uniquely arranges the notes to give a vibe that something dark is coming.

Hey y'all. So, I recently worked on this quick one minute short film from the same Producer of "Sati." It was for a short film competition through NewFilmmakersLA. She asked me to edit it and score it.

The idea was to submit either a one minute or 2-4 minute short film that expresses why you love Los Angeles. The short placed among the top 22.

At first I had a hard time with writing the score because I wasn't quite sure what direction to take it in. Then one day I got frustrated and just deleted everything I was working on and started over. This is what came of it...

Hey y'all! I'm back again. I know it's been quite a while since I've posted anything. I just finished two projects, and I'm working on a few more at the moment. So I'll try to keep this blog more fresh as the days go by.

This first post will be about the (short) documentary that I just scored. The film is titled, "Jerry" and it's about a former executioner in Richmond, VA. I had some fun exploring different sounds with this score. Also, I am obviously going to (SPOIL!) the entire film throughout the post in case you're concerned.

Hey y'all! So, I'm back! Had a scary week last week but all is good now and I can post and post and post...

Today's post is about a short film I just scored. I was hired to edit the film but I needed to have some kind of music to edit to for most of it, given the material. So, I set out to write a temp score. I figured it wouldn't be a waste of time because (A) I would learn some techniques/instruments (the story is based in India) and (B) at the very least, I could post the music here, regardless.

Well, they enjoyed the music so much that they're keeping it. So that's fun!

I'm going to let you guys hear the music in its entirety and explain where they belong in the film (so ... SPOILER ALERT! ). Sit back and enjoy the ride!

Another Failed Supertease Cue...

So, here's another supertease cue I wrote a while back that never ended up anywhere. The editor went for an epic supertease so he asked me to write something that was ... well, epic! The producers ended up wanting more of a "rock" vibe to it instead of epic orchestral.

This one has some of the sound effects from the supertease mixed in as used them as elements in the music. Let me know what you think...

Just Moved In...

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. My wife and I have been full force for weeks (moving from our apartment into our new house)! I haven't written anything yet as I just finished setting up my studio (in the house) today but I forgot that I did write this one cue a couple weeks ago and never posted it.

It's just a dramatic underscore cue so it might be a little repetitive. I should be up and running with some new music soon. We'll see. I'm totally stoked about this studio I've set up. Once it's all "COMPLETELY" finished, I'll upload a picture (with maybe a new cue?) for y'all to see!

8-bit Hawaii Five-O Theme!

Got another 8-bit cue for y'all! I'm a little sick and just felt like popping out another 8-bit cue. Also, check out the A-Team, Magnum, p.i. and Human Target titles I did in 8-bit as well if you haven't already.

I've got a couple more up my sleeves that I'll be working on shortly. I've been challenged to do a more difficult song than these past ones that have a clear melody and no lyrics.

So...we'll see what the future holds. In the mean time, enjoy...

Merry Christmas!

Just wanted to check in and say Merry Christmas to everyone. This is a song I wrote last year, called "Carol of the Bear." It's a rendition of Carol of the Bells with themes from Battlestar Galactica woven in. Hope you like it!

Y: The Last Theme

Hey y'all! I know I've been absent for quite a while now, but I'm back ... temporarily. I just recently wrote a song and I figured I'd throw it up while I can. I'm about to be real busy for the next two weeks and then (hopefully) I will be moving into a house (which will be another butt load of busy!).

I'm hoping to write things here and there whenever I have free time, but just as a warning, this blog might remain cold for another couple of weeks!

Now for this song! I was kind of in a rut and couldn't come up with anything to write. My lovely wife suggested I write music FOR something. She told me to either score something that doesn't have score (i.e. The Office) or come up with a theme to something.

So I did the latter! I wrote what I thought would be a nice theme for Y: The Last Man if they turned that into a television series. For those of you who don't know what it's about, GO READ IT! But in case you don't want to read it, it's a story about every man in the world dying off, except for the hero of the story, named Yorick.

Human Target

Hey guys! So, recently I bought the soundtrack to Human Target, done by none other than Bear McCreary, and have been listening to it nonstop. Unfortunately, listening to a score as much as I have with Human Target means it creeps into my composing. Every time I sit down to write some music that über catchy theme jumps in there somewhere.

STOP. DELETE. START OVER.

So, in order to (hopefully) get it out of my head, I decided to do an 8-bit version of the main title theme. I don't know if it worked (I'll find out tonight) but here it is for your listening enjoyment. I've also included the video of the main title above for reference for those of you who don't know. But honestly, you need to buy the soundtrack regardless if you watch the show or not. Trust me. Check out Bear's Blog about the soundtrack and see for yourself!

Human Target

Busy. Busy. Busy.

Hey guys! So, as you can see I haven't written a blog post in a while. I've actually been pretty busy, both with editing work and music. I'm currently working on a project with Eric Peters and I'm also trying to start an album some time in the near future. It would be an instrumental story line, inspired by events in my life. I haven't worked out how I'm going to do it (both time wise and style wise) but it's definitely in the works.

What do you say? Anybody down to get a Trevor McLean album? I know I am! And probably my mom. And maybe my dad. That's probably the end of that list! We'll see...
